Biography
Cathy Griffin is an avid cyclist who restarted riding about 35 years ago after a long break. She currently lives in North Burnaby and rides her trusty Norco e-bike everywhere. In the past, she has ridden to work all over the lower mainland including to Coquitlam, Richmond, Burnaby and Vancouver.
Cathy is a member of ACE (Advancing Cycling for Everyone ace-burnaby.ca) a cycling advocacy group pushing City Hall to create safe cycling infrastructure all over Burnaby.
Cathy believes, one way to get our civic politicians to understand how unsafe cycling currently is within Burnaby is to get them out on bikes to experience it themselves. The other way is for cyclists and likeminded people to work together to advance and push for change. Local politicians not city staff must drive the process inside City Hall and tell traffic engineers cyclists want safe protected cycling infrastructure, not paint on the road, not shared pathways with pedestrians or cars. Cyclists want safe, well-lit and connected cycle paths that move safely and efficiently throughout Burnaby in north/south and east/west directions.
Cathy supports cyclists who ride for fun (recreation) and those who use their bike in the place of a car (transportation). She believes that everyone should be able to leave their home on a bike and within 400 meters find safe and protected cycling routes that take you to work, school, grocery shopping or just to experience the joy of riding your bike.
