Transit is often much slower than other forms of transportation in Burnaby and may not be reliable. We can solve this!
Speed-up buses at least 20% during peak times with transit priority on all frequent routes in Burnaby within 2 years
Implement full signal priority on all frequent transit corridors so you don’t have to wait at red lights
Create bus lanes and queue jumps on all frequent bus routes to use our road space to most efficiently move the most people
Partner with Translink to reinvest the savings for more frequent and reliable transit service
Corridors include Kingsway, Hastings, Edmonds, 6th St, Canada Way, Willingdon, Imperial, Central Blvd, Marine, Kincaid, Barnet Hwy
Install a bench and shelter at every bus stop by 2030
Allow for a simple, cost-effective design that can quickly be implemented at lower-use stop locations
May include some “green shelters” with trees, overhead vines, etc
Add recycling and garbage facilities at as many bus stops as feasible to reduce litter
Implement a Low income transit (LIT) pass for Burnaby residents
Push for a regional and provincial Low Income Transit (LIT) pass to ensure every Burnaby resident can access where they need to go
If a regional LIT pass is not implemented withing 2 years, work with Translink to fund and implement a LIT pass for Burnaby residents which other cities could join
Support north-south rapid transit in Burnaby, including improving the R2 rapidbus into bus rapid transit between Metrotown, Brentwood, Burnaby Heights, and the North Shore, providing fast, frequent, and convenient transportation options between north and south Burnaby
Support quick implementation of Translink’s updated proposals for more direct and frequent bus service in Burnaby, especially north-south connections, as outlined in the Burrard Peninsula Area Transport Plan
