Dr. Jasmine Nicholsfigueiredo is a parent, teacher, union activist, community leader, and 25-year resident of Burnaby Heights/Brentwood.
With more than 20 years of teaching experience and a PhD in English from Simon Fraser University, Jasmine has dedicated her career to helping students succeed. As an educator at Douglas College, she understands that student achievement begins with safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environments where every learner has the opportunity to thrive.
Jasmine has a proven record of educational leadership. She served on the Douglas College Board and chaired its Education Council Committee, helping promote student success through collaborative governance and accountability. She also serves on the Simon Fraser University Labour Studies Steering Committee, working collaboratively to maintain the high standards of this interdisciplinary program.
A lifelong advocate for public education and working people, Jasmine has represented faculty and staff as President of the Federation of Post-Secondary Educators of BC and in leadership roles with the Douglas College Faculty Association. She believes strong schools are built by supporting the educators, support staff, and administrators who, in-partnership with parents and guardians, help students succeed. Her commitment to public education and workers’ rights has earned her the endorsement of the New Westminster & District Labour Council for the Burnaby municipal election.
In Burnaby, Jasmine has worked to build safer, more connected, and more inclusive communities through her leadership with the Burnaby Community Safety Committee (Edmonds), Burnaby Neighbourhood House, and other local organizations dedicated to strengthening neighbourhoods and supporting families.
As School Trustee, Jasmine’s priorities include supporting students with diverse learning needs, strengthening mental health and well-being supports, continuing the greening of school structures, restoring grade 7 band, and promoting safe and inclusive schools.
Jasmine is running for School Trustee because she believes every child deserves a high-quality public education in a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. She will bring experienced leadership, thoughtful decision-making, and a collaborative approach to serving students, families, educators, and the entire Burnaby community.
