Biography
Tara Shushtarian is a resident of the Forest Grove community in Burnaby. She is a committed advocate for environmental sustainability, social justice and Indigenous rights.
Tara has worked on many initiatives, including advocating for the City to adopt a climate emergency plan, sign the Fossil Free Non-Proliferation treaty and Sue Big Oil, and being an ally to the Tseil-Waututh Nation with regard to the TMX expansion project.
Tara is serving her second term on the Environment Committee with the City of Burnaby, the Co-Chair of the West Coast Climate Action Network, Director of Fair Vote Canada (participatory democracy), a Director on the board of the New West Film Society, and was the South Asian consultant at BC Centre for Palliative Care for Their Advanced Care Plan for Seniors. With the Poverty Reduction coalition she played a pivotal role with the All On Board campaign to insure children 0-12 ride transit for free.
Tara has been a candidate in prior elections for the Burnaby Green Party, the BC Green Party and most recently the Green Party of Canada.
